Responsible Exploration

Societal expectations of business continue to evolve, as does the ability of stakeholders to monitor and report on the conduct of companies no matter where they may be operating. In response, the PDAC has led global efforts to drive improvements in the social, environmental and health and safety performance of the exploration industry, by:

  • Encouraging companies to improve their performance, through the provision of tools, resources and learning opportunities (e.g. e3 Plus: A Framework for Responsible Exploration and programming at the annual PDAC Convention related to corporate social responsibility and Aboriginal affairs)
  • Assisting mineral-rich countries to manage resources responsibly, through advocacy for Canadian investments in resource governance capacity building (e.g. the African Minerals Development Centre, the Intergovernmental Forum, CIRDI)
  • Supporting efforts by the Government of Canada to show leadership in improving the performance of the industry (e.g. PDAC support for the design and implementation of the 2009 and 2014 CSR Strategies for the Extractive Industry as well as legislation governing the conduct of the industry outside of Canada such as the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act and the Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act)
